Steve Steckler
Director, HR Integration
Microsoft, Venture Integration Team
With over twenty-five years of experience in the field of human resources,
Steve has held senior HR generalist and functional specialist positions at a
number of top global companies including Microsoft, TRW, WPP, Citibank and
Marriott International. He has focused on executive and management talent
selection, development and retention, succession management, organizational
effectiveness and on strengthening human resources strategies and programs in
support of achieving business objectives. Steve is currently Director of HR
Integration for Microsoft’s Venture Integration team where he is responsible for
building and implementing people and organization strategies and programs
designed to integrate acquired or release divested companies. Prior to that,
Steve was Director of Strategic Talent Planning for Microsoft where he managed a
team of eight client facing consultants focused on talent movement and
succession management.
Before joining Microsoft, Steve worked for two years as an independent
consultant with both large and small sized organizations. Prior to external
consulting, Steve was the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for The
Kantar Group, the $1 billion global information and consultancy division of WPP.
Before that, he was Vice President, Executive Development and Organizational
Capability for Marriott International where he focused on managing the executive
talent management process for the corporation’s top 250 executives worldwide.
Prior to that, Steve was Director of Individual and Organization Effectiveness
for TRW’s Systems & Information Technology Group, a business unit with $3
billion in annual sales and 18,000 employees. He directed organization
effectiveness initiatives, succession planning, leadership development programs
and supervised a group of consultants. At TRW, Steve also held senior HR
generalist positions. Before TRW, he worked for CIBA-GEIGY and at
CITIBANK-CITICORP corporate headquarters.
Steve is currently a faculty presenter at the University of Alberta School of
Business HR executive program. Previously, he was an adjunct faculty member at
Cornell University's School of Industrial & Labor Relations public program for
their advanced HR certificate. Steve was also an adjunct professor at Marymount
University's School of Business Administration, where he taught the keystone
graduate course in HR Strategies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and
a master’s degree in education from The George Washington University in
Washington. D.C.
