Claiming Microsoft’s Future: Retaining What
Led to Success While Defining and Driving What Is Needed for Tomorrow
Microsoft’s culture transformation, talent
management, and leadership development journey began four years ago with
a cultural assessment to identify factors critical to both its business
success and remarkable employee value proposition. This assessment,
along with projected business and industry shifts, informed the
aspire-to culture, and leadership and talent management frameworks and
processes required to propel the company into the future. Microsoft will
share its journey, foundational frameworks, and integrated nature of the
solutions it has built, along with key learnings, as the company claims
its future.
Norm Tonina, 15 year Microsoft veteran, is a
Senior Director on Microsoft’s People and Organization Capability (POC)
and has been responsible for designing and executing key strategic
corporate-wide HR initiatives since 1999. Over the last four years, Norm
has worked as part of the POC Leadership Team focused on the company’s
culture, talent management, and leadership development agenda.
Currently, Norm leads POC’s Culture and Talent Transformation team. This
team is responsible for defining and executing an enterprise-wide change
plan and influence strategy to shape and evolve Microsoft’s culture
while documenting Microsoft’s overarching talent strategy while
expanding / updating critical talent enablement elements.
