Bob Cremin and Marcia Greenberg will host a case study of their own work
together at Esterline, reflecting on the company’s rapid growth and
organizational development in the last several years. The session will be
informal and will start with a brief tour of Esterline offices and an
introduction to its products. Esterline is a specialized manufacturing company,
principally in the aerospace and defense markets.
Esterline is distinctly decentralized and now operates in more than 30
locations, half of which are outside the U.S. This profile presents particular
challenges and responsibility for corporate leadership to drive strong
performance for the corporation as a whole, yet encourage independent, local “ownership.”
Bob and Marcia will talk about HR’s role with:
- Esterline’s Performance System (“EPS”) that established a common
approach and management tools for setting strategy, business planning, and
day-to-day management
- Developing lean enterprises that engage people and ensure the company’s
future
- Talent review practices and leader development
- Acquisitions (25+ in the last ten years)
- Unusual consumer driven health care plan that replaced most traditional
plans in the U.S.
- Esterline’s Board of Directors
- Workforce and executive compensation programs that support and reward
superior performance
