Built for Agility: Leading in Uncertain Times
Thursday,
November 12, 2009
In the face
of increasing market and economic uncertainties, the need for strategic
and organizational agility seems obvious. But when it comes to
organization change, the goal of most organizations is to adapt...it is
not to become adaptable.
Making one successful change is not the same as being agile. The purpose
of this working session is to learn about the "built to change" model of
agility, apply some of the research-based tools developed by USC's
Center for Effective Organizations, and discuss the role of HR in
supporting agile organizations.
The session will be facilitated by
Ed Lawler,
Chris Worley, and
Theresa Welbourne, who are all noted researchers and consultants from the Center
for Effective Organizations at USC's Marshall School of Business. Ed has
written over 36 books - his latest is Talent: Making People Your
Competitive Advantage. Chris is coauthor with Ed of Built to Change and
expert on strategic change and organization design. Theresa is author of
the Leadership Pulse Project and expert on employee energy and
engagement during change.
During the workshop, you will work with Drs. Lawler, Welbourne, and
Worley to:
-
Diagnose
your organization's agility profile and compare with world-class
benchmarks
-
Understand
and work with the dimensions of the Built to Change agility framework
-
Learn to
use the extreme strategizing process within your organization
-
Support
extreme strategizing with maximum surface area structures
-
Build Fast
HR practices to match changing business needs
-
Create
change capability to support continuous transformation
