Candy Marshall is the Chief Human Resources Officer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  As a member of the senior leadership team, she leads the planning, development, and implementation of HR strategies that support the organizational objectives of the foundation in each of the individual program areas.  Ms. Marshall joined the foundation during a critical time in its growth and development.  Providing vision and direction, she drives positive change within the foundation.  She reports to Cheryl Scott, Chief Operations Officer, and leads the HR team.

Ms. Marshall comes to the foundation from WRQ, Inc. where she was General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Human Resources.  Candy also served as the Corporate Secretary and worked closely with the Board in this capacity.  She was responsible for successfully negotiating a number of strategic acquisitions and leading the teams responsible for integrating newly acquired companies into WRQ.  Candy personally led a number of initiatives targeted toward strengthening the leadership team and creating a renowned work environment.

Ms. Marshall was a founder and principal in the law firm Sebris, Busto & Marshall.  She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.S. in Public Administration in 1977, and graduated with distinction from the University of Nebraska, College of Law in 1980 and was elected to the Order of the Coif.

Candy is featured in several nationally distributed management training video programs, which she also helped design, and is a prominent public speaker on human resources, management and legal issues.  She also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Greater Seattle.
