Delena Sunday
Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Diversity Affairs

Delena Sunday has more than 26 years experience with Nordstrom in many areas
of the business including sales, buying, store management and human resources.
Delena supports more than 50,000 employees at Nordstrom. Her focus is primarily
on recruitment and succession planning, learning and development, recognition
and retention programs, and compensation and benefits.
Delena also oversees the company’s diversity initiatives. Delena supports
regional diversity affairs directors around the country reinforcing our
commitment through continued efforts in the areas of employment and promotion,
training, and community relations. In addition, Delena and her team continue to
make the Supplier Diversity program a priority. Expenditures for this program in
2005 exceeded $635 million, bringing total expenditures to $6.4 billion since
the program’s inception in 1989.
In 2006, FORTUNE magazine named Nordstrom to its 100 Best Companies to Work
for in America list for the 9th year in a row and included the company in their
“Hall of Fame,” recognition for companies that have appeared on the list each
year since 1998.
Delena joined Nordstrom in 1980 as a salesperson and went on to be an
assistant buyer, human resources manager and then store manager of several
Seattle area stores. In 1996 she was named the director of diversity affairs and
was promoted to vice president in 1998. Delena was named executive vice
president of human resources and diversity affairs in 2000 and she is an
executive team member. In 2005, under the leadership of the executive team, the
company achieved a record 7.7 billion in sales, best-ever gross margin
performance and the highest net income in the company’s history.
