Tom Heine
VP, Leadership and Organization Development
Esterline
Tom Heine has led Esterline’s leader development and OD
functions since joining the company in 2000. He has an extensive background in
general HR, OD, operations management, and as a business owner.
In the last ten years, Esterline has sustained an annual growth rate in the high
teens as revenues have grown from $300M to $1.5B. It has expanded its operations
from 9 sites in 2 countries in 2000 to more than 40 sites in 7 countries today

this expanding size and complexity, Esterline has had to significantly grow its
capability in the areas of leader identification, selection, assessment and
development as well as all areas of OD.
Prior to Esterline, Tom worked for Honeywell for 12 years in a variety of
Operations and HR roles in their Defense and Commercial Aviation businesses as
well as a two year HR leadership assignment in their corporate office. He had
P&L responsibility as owner of a small manufacturing business for 3 years and
was the HR Director for a large vertically integrated Midwestern steel
manufacturer for 8 years. He has had extensive international experience with
both Esterline and Honeywell.
Tom has spoken at several national HR conventions and has authored several
magazine articles on lean manufacturing most notably for the Association of
Manufacturing Excellence’s Target journal and the Society of Manufacturing
Engineer’s Lean Directions periodical. He also participated in the development
and writing of an award winning Harvard Business School case study on the role
of lean vis a vis ERP systems. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan
University and a Master’s degree in HR/OD from the University of Colorado.
